Dilijan

Dilijan is a spa town and one of the most important resorts of Armenia, situated in Dilijan National Park. Called as an “Armenian Switzerland” by the locals, with its magical landscapes, beautiful oak and hornbeam forests and mineral curing water fountains, Dilijan was the peaceful retreat for cinematographers, composers, artists and writers during Soviet time. Today it’s a centre for tourism with a number of fine hotels, cafes and restaurants, allowing the visitors the chance to enjoy the beauty of the National Park as well as the historical sites.

Dilijan has a rich historical and cultural heritage. During the nearby excavations, bronze items of almost three thousand years old were found, including armours, daggers, pitchers, ear-rings and others. Part of those items could be found in Dilijan museum. The gorgeous churches of Haghartsin and Goshavank are an easy day trip from Dilijan.

The Sharambeyan street in the town centre, has been preserved and maintained as an "old town," complete with craftsman's workshops, a gallery and a museum. The central amphitheatre of Dilijan is the venue of many summer festivals and cultural events.
